At what point do you decide it is time for your LO to go to LTC?

My husband is still aware of who he is and where he is, and who people sound him are, but he is totally confused about time. He will take a nap and when he wakes up, he thinks it's a new day, a d he wants breakfast. When I tell him it's still the same day, he gets upset. I would like to keep him at home until he doesn't know who or where he is, but I don't know if that's the best thing for him. Advice???

Some posters here say it's easier on the LO to place them before they are really far along in dementia; that they'll settle in faster, and things/people around them will be familiar and less of a stress than later on in the progression....

I think that it boils down to safety and the caregivers ability to cope. If he is putting himself or you at risk, (this includes violence and excess anger that could lead to you being injured) it is time. If you are falling apart because of the care you need to provide, it is time.

Can you give him breakfast for dinner? Sometimes you have to be flexible, if it works for you. Maybe stops him from sleeping during the day.

I hope you find the best solution for both of you. Hugs!
