How to make your heart know what your mind knows about placing mom in LTC? She requires someone with her 24/7 due to poor balance and fall risk along with her dementia. When I'm not at work I'm with her.
thanks i just feel a little bit like im being selfish wanting a little bit of my life back. my husband and two of my sons (21 and 23) help out so much. plus she counts and wants me with her all the time. im just torn

Today, my loved one is in AL, by his own choice after living briefly with different family members. Does not fall any more, has friends, is well taken care of by additional private caregivers.
No one person can care for a dementia person full time; it takes several shifts of trained, strong, generally young caregivers.
You are not abandoning your mom; you are changing your role to that of advocate. Believe me, there will be PLENTY to do!
