My mother has very morbid thoughts and delusions with her dementia. Anyone else experience this?

Everyone on TV is sick, dying, in jail...

Showie, people who have dementia usually cannot tell the difference between what’s real and what’s on television. We recently had a question here about censoring the shows a person with dementia watches. Posters advised against letting their loved ones watch the news or reality shows.

My mother’s delusions and hallucinations were always very real to her. Some scared her and I always told her nurse about them. I didn’t try to convince her things she was seeing weren’t real. She wouldn’t have believed me. I just dealt with itnthriugh the medical staff.

Showie, if this is new for your Mother, I would have her checked by her primary doctor to see if Mother has an Urinary Tract Infection. Such an infection in an older person can cause a whole array of different issues such as delusions.

My mom and Aunt do not have dementia (per see) yet, but they always imagine the worst when anything happens. Anyone older who falls is going to break a hip and die, any relative who gets sick has cancer.. I know the drill! My cousin had a procedure this week, the Dr is 99.99% sure he got all the cancer.. you got it.. that .01% is going to kill him,,, No good medical news ever! I;d be happy if it was just on TV
