Mom suffers with thrush in her mouth. She will not take the medicine the doctor gave her. She chokes and spits on the floor. Advice?

I brace myself for new dilemmas. I stay focused on my life and stay mindful of my needs. I push myself further, to be good to myself while her stuff is going on around me. Does anyone relate?

Thanks. For telling me about the IV med. It might take a few days being hospitalized to clear it up. I hate to see her suffer with her infirmity. I surely wouldn't want the last years of my life, fighting an ongoing condition like hers. It is so out of control that she tries to wipe it off her lips and face. Then her face is red.

Thanks. We will visit the doctor again. Because swishing her mouth out with the liquid med, 3 times a day is not getting it. She would be better with a pill. If not, maybe she'll need to be hospitalized with an IV. Thanks for texting me back !

Yes, and you’re not wrong for doing that. I care for my husband who is bedridden. I do everything for him but feed him. He is currently in rehab for therapy for his lack of mobility which is mostly his fault. .

I work in the baby room of a daycare center and picked up a virus from one of the babies. I’ve felt like crap all day. Hubby called this morning and got snarky because I was hoarse and he couldn’t understand me. He was trying to be funny, I guess. He asked what I was doing and I told him sitting with s cup of tea and reading. He said, “why aren’t you cleaning the house?” Again, trying to be funny? I finally told him as much as I hate this house (I called it a s**thole) that I’d like to get my animals and my heirlooms out, get the gas can and burn it to the ground. Ha! He didn’t know what to say. We hung up, I went back to my tea and book and I didn’t feel one bit guilty for mouthing off to him.

Take care of yourself. Do the best you can for Mom. On Monday call the doctor and tell him what she’s doing with the meds. Clear your conscience. Then get your own good book and a cup of tea like I did and take care of yourself. ❤️👍🏻.

I'm sure we can all relate to bracing ourselves for new dilemmas, I sure can! Every time the phone rings, I grit my teeth, expecting the ALF to be calling to let me know my 92 y/o mother fell AGAIN. Or, that she's on her way to the hospital by ambulance for yet another bloody nose they can't get to stop. Or some other issue that I'll have to handle.
There are many different treatments for thrush, so if the the meds prescribed are not tolerated by your mother, perhaps another can be ordered. I read that an IV anti-fungal can also be administered, in case the oral meds aren't an option. You don't want to have an even bigger issue on your hands if it's left untreated and goes into her system. Sigh. It's one thing after another, isn't it?
Best of luck!
