Legs stiffening up?

Has anyone experienced their LO legs contracting/stiffening and their feet turning inwards? Mom is late-mid to early late stages (hopefully that makes sense). She does have arthritis in her back as well as other back issues so I don't know if this is a combination of that plus ALZ or just the ALZ.

I really think that you should have PT come in. Medicare will pay for it. Have them show you how to exercise her then you can continue it.

Thanks everyone!  We will start doing daily leg exercises to hopefully keep her loose.

I have to disagree that contractures are inevitable. Those with brain damage do curl into a fetal position and remain motionless for hours at a time, this is what causes contractures as well as pressure sores. Attention needs to be given to keeping the joints flexible with passive range of motion exercises and repositioning - contractures in a nursing home are considered neglect and abuse.

I found this YouTube training video that gives an idea what is involved

My Grandmother went to the very end of her ALZ journey. She curled up in the fetal position which we were told was the final stage.

People suffering from ALZ in last stage go into the fetal position. Is this what it looks like. You may want to call the doctor. He may make an order for PT. Otherwise, you may want to call in hospice.

Look up contractures, specifically contractures in the elderly/nursing home. My mom got contractures in her knees before I realized what was happening, once in the nursing home the physiotherapists spent time methodically moving all her joints several times a week to prevent this.
