We do a daily bed bath (wrung-out washcloths from a basin of sudsy, no-rinse soap) for my quadriplegic dad. We only do his entire back once a week. Seems to work well for our climate and his activity level.
Remember back in the olden days when Saturday night was bath night :)
Since elders aren't out plowing fields, standing over a wood burning stove, or mucking the barn, I would think one a week is enough. For in-between times, just use baby wipes.
Too much bathing could dry the skin making it feel itchy. Yes, there are lotions, but men aren't known to use body lotion after a shower.
In facilities, its two times a week. I had Mom bathed 3x living with me and in the AL. The NH had their own schedule.
My Mom has a BO problem because she couldn't use deodorant. So if she didn't shower, I washed her there. At the AL I asked they at least used a wipe. We did find a deodorant that didn't break her out. So made sure it was used everyday.
