What state are you in? Every state in the country has some sort of in government/state in home support services program in additional to other private programs. there are some states with IHSS programs that do not allow a spouse to be a paid caregiver though.

It is almost impossible to get paid to care for your spouse.

Maybe if he was an active duty vet there are programs that can help.

Unless he is a Vet who saw active duty, you probably can’t. I live in Ohio and care for my husband and there is no government agency that will pay me to care for him. They told me to get a reverse mortgage. I understand that in some states, Medicaid will pay a certain amount, but it’s hardly enough to live on. Plus, there’s no health insurance and no retirement fund.

Your best bet bet is to see if you both will qualify for assistance as a couple. Contact your local Department of Human Resources and ask them.
