How do I switch my parents' Medicare from PA to VA so they can live with me?

Thats true. The one I spoke to was dealing with a MIL with severe dementia the same age as my mother so she became sympathetic.

I'm sorry Riverdale, I didn't mean it as a contradiction to your answer. I just mentioned it to say how easy it was to change the address.

I do remember you saying, in another thread, about that experience with SS on the phone. Unfortunately I think it's the luck of the draw. Some reps are nice and some..umm not so much. 😟

I only suggested the POA if there is the possibility your mother may not communicate well on the phone. I barely got by with SS when i needed the deposit made to another bank after a move. I was told if they thought I was coaxing her at all the call would be terminated and we would have to go together to the office.

I just did this in May. I moved My Mom from NJ to My home in PA. All I did was call Medicare 1800-772-1213, told them my Mom moved and I needed to change her address. At that point they asked for Mom to give her permission for me to advocate for her. She did, and that was recorded on her file so it's permanent. No POA needed. I gave the new address...boom done. Easy peasy. 😉

It would be best to have a durable POA. I moved my family and my mother to SC from NY for our retirement but also because of cost factors. All her medical bills have continued to be covered.

Medicare is a national program and I think a change of address will be all that is needed. I hope someone who has done this will come along with their experience.

Medicaid, however, has difference qualifications by state and for that I think you have to re-apply.
