Is dementia the same as Alzheimer's?

Sher, great answers above. Also, the Alzheimer's website addresses both terms and describes different stages. ALZ.ORG Lots of good info on this site.

Not quite.

Alzheimer's Disease is one form of dementia.

There are dozens of different types of dementia.

So if you think back to Venn diagrams, Alzheimer's is a subset of dementia.

All Alzheimer's patients have dementia.
But
Not all dementia patients have Alzheimer's Disease.
