My mom is bedridden and has an expired driver's license, how do we get a current California ID?

She needs a current CA ID, but this is not going to be an easy task to get her to the DMV. Her last Drivers license expired in 2014. Can she get a CA ID while at the facility she is in without going to the DMV?

In Illinois, you can get a State ID once you no longer drive. My mom got one of those when she quit driving.

I understand the driver’s license as ID, but in my state they’ll accept an expired license or an ID that’s not a driver license, must have photo.

I've heard the following: "Do you have her driver's license? Please bring it - even if it's expired." I'd suggest that you first double-check the person who told you that the license (or state ID) must be current. If it turns out the person who told you that was wrong, then you don't have an issue anymore and this will save you tons of time. Even people with good intentions can unintentionally mislead.

In California, a field agent from the DMV will come out to the house in this situation. You have to set up an appointment, you might have to go in person to set up the appointment unless you can get a live person on the line. The last time I called, it was all automated, couldn't get a human being on the line.

Neale1234, in my State an elder can use an expired drivers license with no problems for ID. Just as long as the license has a current address. When my Dad moved, I was able to make the change on-line.

Call the DMV, explain the situation and ask how to get a license. I doubt anyone would require a bedridden person to get an ambulance or ambulette and leave a facility. There must be some provision for this situation.
