Is there assistance for completing a Medicare application for senior living?

My mom is in an assisted living paying with private funds. I need to have her switched to Medicare payments because her funds are getting lower.

Check with the social worker at her facility and ask for assistance. Or call you area Agency on Aging. They sometimes have Medicaid facilitators.

I would go to head of the billing dept. or the social worker and ask to fill out a Medicaid application and also contact an elder law attorney BEFORE  you go. I have learned a lot from the elder attorney firm that sometimes covers this on the radio. I believe it is better to know as much about Medicaid and nursing homes from the professionals that can advise you about your individual circumstances and protect assets at the same time.   Good luck!

Mhill,

Talk to the social worker where she is now and ask for help with the application.

If a person is using Medicaid for nursing home/AL care they cannot get Aid and Attendance too. A & A only pays about 1200 a month for a Spouse anyway.

if the father was a veteran, you can get spousal benefits to help with assisted care if you qualify.

Mom was not a veteran. The assisted living she is in does accept Medicaid. She is in a room that is sent aside for Medicaid recipients. I just did not know how to get things started.

Hi, It's actually Medicaid that I believe you are inquiring about. that is what helps those without financial resources to pay for assistance. First thing to ask is does the facility she is in now accept medicaid residents. If yes, you can proceed. If no, you will have to find another facility that does accept medicaid residents. Typically, there is someone on the staff of facilities that will assist with the medicaid application.
Was your Mom or Dad a veteran? if so, check on this site for information about whether or not they may qualify for veteran's assistance.
