I recieved a bill for my father's nursing home care. Should I pay it?

My father is on Medicare and has been on disability most of his life. He was diagnosed with dementia and was placed in the nursing home by his Doctor. He has applied for Medicaid.

Have you spoken to Medicaid office and his case worker? Their name should be on his paperwork. When Mom was in rehab and heading to NH, as soon as I applied and she became Medicaid Pending they gave me explicit direction to not pay anything, and I had to fax all bills to the caseworker. I would clarify with them.

Just understand, NH bills, as with medical, pharmacy and hospital bills are Dad's bills. You are not financially responsible for them.

no PoA, I am not sure about the rehab status, but I think he is.

BarbBrooklyn Apr 2018
Don't pay ANY nh bills, especially not with YOUR money.

Is he technically in rehab?

Do you have Power of Attorney?

Dad is in a Medicaid pending status and was sent over after a 7 day stay in the hospital. Dad has no assets and only a small Disability check each month.

Do you mean should YOU pay it with YOUR funds? No.

Or do you mean should you pay it with DAD'S funds. Maybe.

Did dad have a three day qualifying stay at a hospital and thus is actually in rehab at the NH? Is he is in a "Medicaid Pending" status at the NH. Then no.
