My mother is experiencing anxiety by imagining the neighbors are doing and saying things that aren’t true. I'm not sure what to do?

She has been in this new location for 2 months. My father passed away 8 months ago. I’m not sure how to help her or what to do.

Babsiegirl62, have your Mother tested for an Urinary Tract Infection as such an infection can cause strange things to happen to a person, they start seeing and hearing things that aren't there. If there is an UTI, it can be cleared with antibiotics.

When my Dad had a UTI, he said he saw ants on the walls and in his food. Once the infection was cleared up, the Staff started to give Dad cranberry juice mixed with orange juice. Cranberries can do wonders with helping not to get UTI's.

Delusions, hallucinations and extreme anxiety are symptoms. Discuss them with her doctor, or even better, with a geriatric psychiatrist.

My mom had unbelievable hallucinations. At some point in her life, she developed a serious fear of men. I don’t know why and don’t want to know. Every man in the Nursing home was stalking her. They were coming through the walls through secret passages, and even hiding inside her bed between the mattress and the frame. Because she was supervised in a skilled facility and aware of people taking care of her, I was able to calm her down by saying that I would let the nurse know. You may be able to calm your mom down by telling her you’ll stop at the police station on your way home and ask them to take an extra ride past. Is she in a facility? There must be staff if she is. It seemed to me that my mom would calm down as soon as I told her I was going to report her fears to someone in authority. It’s the old therapeutic fib.
