Does my 79 year old mom have to pay taxes for the money I pay her for babysitting my kids?

My 79 years old mom who lives with us for free and has no income at all is babysitting my kids. I give her $1200 a month so she can have money to buy what ever she likes. Does she have to pay income taxes and self employed taxes for the money I am giving her for babysitting? I do get food stamps and I did report to them that I do give my mom this money. Since it is counted as expenses for me. I need your advice. Thank you

If you're claiming the money you pay her as a deductions on your taxes, you have to list to whom you're paying this money. Eventually the IRS will figure out that mom is "making money"--she would be in a very low tax bracket, but you better see a tax specialist ASAP.

Why isn't she getting any SSI at all?

I agree with cwillie. Sorry but 1200 would buy lots of food. Mom gets no SS? If she isn't she can't get SSI?
I would chalk up the babysitting as her contribution to the home.

I'm pretty sure that she does because you are claiming it as an expense. This can get complicated, you should consult a tax specialist.
