Why should you not have a grown child on your bank account?

I think A POA will give the right to write checks off your account even if the person not on your acct when u no longer can and not before. POA only kicks in when it has been determined you no longer can handle your affairs.

Are you in the position of needing help? If you and/or your husband are dealing with cognitive impairment or dementia, it is a choice that will need to be made soon. If the child in question doesn't manage money well, is not trustworthy, or has problems with addiction or gambling, you probably shouldn't put them onto your account. MidKid58 is correct about there being some sad stories here.

SOOO many reasons.
However, if you completely, without reservation, trust this individual with absolute faith in their honesty, then it's OK to do. My brother can write checks but ONLY with mother's OK. When/if she can no longer do her own banking, his POA will kick in and then he will do all her banking. He is 100% trustworthy.

Sadly, there's a lot of stories here about people who are NOT so worthy of trust.

Step carefully into this.
