My sister-in-law is in what we think is the early stages of dementia but will not let us take her to the doctor. How can we have her assessed?

My brother has had an EMT come to the house but they did not want to transport her to a hospital due to the amount of flu in area ERs at this time. What are our options? She is currently also in pain due to a low back injury from a surgery several years ago. The pain is making her outbursts and crying even worse.

Here is an online dr service you might check out.

Tough one.

If I were your brother, what would I try? I'd look up Doctors who make House Calls on Google. There are actually about a dozen in my area. Who knew? But a couple are dermatologist, a pediatrician, a lung specialist ... there are not 12 who would be suitable. I'd call the few that might be.

Then I would call the Area Agency on Aging and explain what I needed. They may be able to identify resources. I'd ask my pharmacist.

She will not leave the house. She barely even leaves her room. She has not been combative but I can only imagine at this point that she will not go any where against her will and she is still coherent enough to know that any outing would be to take care of her health.

I never told Mom she had an appt until she asked where she was going. Your BIL is just going to have to lie to get her to the doctor. She may need pain management. The doctor may send her right to the hospital for evaluation.
