Recovery from long surgery with a patient with dementia?

A family member is having a long surgery, 6 to 8 hours, for bladder cancer and she has dementia. Is there something we can do post-op that will hasten the removal of the anesthesia from her system as she regresses and then it takes a long time to remove it from her system?

Thank you for the support and answers - there will be someone with her at all times. It is my mom and my dad is afraid of the long term affects of what this will do to her, again thank you

Hi, just a comment to please stay with your loved one as much as possible while in the hospital, especially after surgery. It is very disorienting for someone with AD and having a familiar face nearby really helps their recovery. I know, this just isn't easy. All the best to you and to her.
