Is it better to add spouse to your insurance?

I am a federal worker and I have good health insurance. My husband has Medicare and private medigap insurance. I want to add him to my insurance but am unsure if that is better or worse. Is anyone doing that? Advice?

Check out the total costs between what you are paying now for his insurance and the increased cost to your plan if you add him. Also see if the coverage is equivalent or worse/better. Would he be able to see his preferred doctors, have his meds on the formulary, etc? Also, see if you can suspend Medicare since he would be covered under your employer's coverage. Could he go back to Medicare without any penalties if you decide to return to the current situation. When I was a federal employee I carried my disabled husband on my insurance. We didn't have to set up his Part B Medicare as son as he was eligible because I had been carrying him on my insurance while I worked. When we did sign him up years later there was no penalty because I had proof of having covered him for those years.
