I notice white around my mothers eyes as if she put on very white eye liner. Is this a sign of something?

I notice white around my mother's eyes as if she put on very white eye liner. She fell and fractured her hip and is in hospice just until we get her hospital bed and lift set up at home. She does have dementia and is 96yrs old.
