Can I get paid for taking care of my nephew that is on hospice?

I drive around 70 miles everyday and stay with him about 10 to eleven hours. I used to get paid back for my gas when I took my brother to his doctors appts. but don't remember how and what I went through to do this.

Try googling care giver contracts for elderly. The hourly rate should be equal to the going rate in your state home home aides. You'll also need to pay taxes on your income as well as keep a strict log on dates, times and services you provide.

Martin, sorry to read about your nephew. Please note the vast majority of family caregivers do not get paid for taking care of their love one.... unless the love one can pay them directly.

Now, if your nephew is on Medicaid [which is different from Medicare] you can check to see if your State has any programs where a caregiver is paid. If yes, please note the pay would be very minimal.

As for fuel reimbursement, I am not familiar with anything like that. My elderly parents use to fill up the gas tank for me whenever I took them to appointments, or shopping.

I'm trying to find out if there is a way I can get paid for taking care of my nephew during the day? I drive around 70 miles a day during the week and fix his meals and give him his meds and check his vitals. I am there around 10 to 11 hours on the days I go. I just wondered cause I don't know who to go through to find information.
