I'm having a hard time finding a facility for my mom with dementia. She has no private insurance. Any suggestions?

Every place I've visited or spoke to says she should come straight from the hospital, but she doesn't need to be there.

Is this a nursing home setting that you're talking about?

Your mother needs to be medically qualified to be in a facility. Ask if there is a waiting list and place her on waiting lists for facilities that you visit.

Yes, most folks come directly from a hospital, but with her doctor, you need to work on creating a file that indicates that she is in need of NH care. You can also get a "needs" assessment through your local Area Agency on Aging, which will evaluate her ability to do "Activities of Daily Living" (ADLs) which is another part of the qualification.
