My mother is at the last stage of dementia. She eats okay, but drinks very little. How long will she live?

She cannot move herself and cannot speak.

Neither I nor anyone can specifically answer your question. But I can share what I saw in the memory care facility I am familiar with. My Mom was there for 18 months. She ate up til 5 days before she passed. Other residents were totally immobile for over a year and still there when my Mom left. So, I guess you just never know! I like the hospice idea from Sunnygirl. Hugs to you and your Mom

If she isn't with hospice she needs to be. If she doesn't speak, she will qualify. They will help you with all of your tough questions. Also, liquid doesn't have to be water. If she will drink Ensure or Carnation Breakfast Essentials or eat watermelon or a popsicle or Jell-o. Ice chips from Sonic are good. Hospice can bring you those sponges on a stick. She can suck on one of them after you wet it. I'm sorry that her time is drawing to a close. But no one can predict exactly how much time is left. There are signs you can look for, but not everyone displays them.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother's condition. Is she on Hospice? I wish I could offer something, but, I'm afraid that I don't have any experience with this situation. I bet you will get some responses though.
