Is there a switch that we can turn the electric stove off when we leave and turn the switch back on when we come back?

Veronica91 Mar 2017
The stove has it's own dedicated 220 line with a plug behind the stove. If you want to permanently turn off the stove simply pull it out and unplug it

You are right, katiekate. They are not for regular flipping. A switch installed by an electrician would be better or remove all the knobs before you leave the house.

I would not be flipping the circuit breaker off and on. They are not designed to act like a light switch...they will not stand up to the wear involved.

Call and electrician. And have a proper switch installed on that line. Most stoves are going to be 30amp or more...so a ordinary switch will not handle that load.

My LO had a circuit breaker labeled STOVE and I turned it off. I also turned off the washer/dryer, took out all electrical appliances, like microwave, can opener, toaster, coffee maker, etc. As well as removing all knives, cleaners, medications, etc. I would add that when it's at this point, leaving the person for any length of time is risky. I was also getting paperwork ready, TB tests, etc. for admittance to AL within days.

We used to switch it off at the circuit breaker. In our houses, the stove has been on its own switch.

Well generally a breaker will control more than the stove. You could flip the one that controls yours and see what else goes off. There are many models of stoves. You could do a search on yours. I've never seen a switch on any stove that I've owned that turned off the electrical power to the stove. But I've never looked for one. I assume you have a concern for safety by leaving your electric stove operable when you are away.  You might be able to have an electrician install an isolated line for the stove that you can turn off when you leave.

Most stoves have knobs you can take off

I would trip the switch for the stove at the fuse box.
