Mom cannot get up fast enough to get to the commode sometimes. What products can I use to protect the bed and her?

Maybe a washable mat? A water resistant diaper that is not plastic to stay cool? This is a new stage for both of us. Any suggestions for how to accomplish her care in comfort will be appreciated!

Endless possibilities - there are disposable bed pads and washable bedpads, there is a wide range of absorbencies to cover everything from little accidents to tsunamis, there are some with wings which you can tuck under the bed - go to any disability or continence care supplies website and browse. I used washable ones on chairs, just in case, and disposables for in bed. They all seemed to do what it said on their respective labels.

Is your mother upset by this? The key thing is to reassure her that it can't be helped and she mustn't worry - together you'll find a way.
