Or consider counseling or joining a support group. Try to dig deeper and see what is affecting your mom's mood. I know its hard when those around us are feeling hopeless but try to be their advocate and see what resources are available.
Sorry, but it is hard to answer given the few details in your question. How old is mom? Does she have dementia? What was the surgery for, was it successful and did she do well in rehab?
