What do I do with my grandparents dog after they move to a nursing home?

My grandma had to move into assisted living a few months ago and my grandpa moved into an apartment nearby with their dog (a shih tzu). My grandfather now has to move into assisted living and cannot keep the dog. I am unable to take it and we want to find him a good home. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look to rehome? They are located just outside of Boston.

Sometimes you can ask the veterinarian who has been treating the dog for advice on re-homing or rescue groups. They will also be familiar with any health issues.

1. Research local nonkill humane organizations that will help find a home for the dog.

2. Contact a Shih Tzu rescue group; sometimes specific breed rescue groups have lists of people who will foster a dog until an appropriate home is found. I think this would be the best method of finding a home for this little sweetheart.
