Where can a elderly lady get help with lawncare?

The city of Cleveland has a senior services office and so does Cuyahoga county. Visit a nearby senior center for information.

Call your local elected official (city or county) and ask if there is lawn care help for seniors. There might be. Some communities have volunteers who do lawn mowing, raking, snow shoveling, etc. for seniors. Maybe yours is one of those communities. I worked for a county that did this.

We had help through the Area Agency on Aging. Luckily we got on the list when the economy was still good; now there is more demand and a waitlist for our town. They contract with someone who mows the lawn at a greatly reduced rate. This was for mowing only, no weeding or trimming.

The Scouts will sometimes do volunteer work. You might check with your Area Agency on Aging about fall yard clean-ups -- they might know whether the Eagle Scouts or another volunteer group has a day this month where they go to several houses and rake leaves for seniors.

Sometimes if you check with the Area Agency of Aging or your local churches, they may know someone who will do this. But the need for helpers always seems to outstrip the volunteers.

Oops, cut off a little too fast. We have about 0.25 acre lawn that has to be tended. I pay a company $45-60 each time that they cut it. They do it automatically every two weeks in summer, so I don't have to call them each time.

I'm afraid there is no special services for this. You really have to either know someone or pay someone to do it.
