Cost of trip to another nursing home?

freqflyer Sep 2016
LMac, it all depends on the condition of the patient and what level of care he/she would need on the transfer.

If the patient is ok being in a wheelchair, there are wheelchair transport cab mini vans that are reasonably priced depending on the distance. We used on for my Mom to go from the hospital back to her house, and it was 10 miles, costing us $60 plus tip. The van uses their own wheelchair, they come into the facility to pick up the patient, and once at the new location, they will help with getting the person into their new room.

Now, if you need to use a transport ambulance which usually has two employees, and they use a bed, then that cost would be much much more. Medicare won't pay for transferring from one nursing home to another if this is a patient choice.

Wouldn't it be far simpler to call a local transport company and ask them rather that post on a national (international really) forum? It is going to depend on what is available in your area, how far you are going and local rates, but it won't be cheap.... think thousands rather than hundreds.

What does it cost to hire a transport company to transfer a non-emergency patient intrastate to another NH?
