Haven't really started caregiving yet and I'm stressed out.

Stayed with husband in hospital for 16 days. Last night he was taken to. rehab an I came home. 37 messages. People to call back. Bills to pay. Nervice about driving and parking at rehab. Got ride today. Husband says pants too tight but dint. Have bigger. Doesn't want me to buy him bigger size and hem. Would take a while any way. Find bigger size then take them to be hemmed. Before I could get more pants to him. I said can't you ask them to unbuttoned the. Button and unzip a little. He says they do what they want. I said ask a. nurse to lossen pants. He says an alarm goes off when you press button fir nurse.

Just cut off the sweat pants. Don't worry about hemming them. They aren't going to fray in the wash and rehab facilities aren't fashion-conscious.

Why won't thinner pants or lounge pants work?

Having pants that he won't trip on and that are comfortable at the waist is highest priority now. Put other considerations aside and accomplish that goal.

It really can be overwhelming to suddenly have an adult depending on you. Of course you are stressed. I'll bet if you were less stressed just getting some pants wouldn't seem so difficult.

My son is short and needs all pants shortened, too. He spent quite a long time recuperating after a car struck his motorcycle at threw him 80 feet. He didn't change sizes but he needed pants without snaps or zippers or buttons, as he had limited use of his arms. His wife went to Target and came back to the rehab with 3 sweatpants and a scissors. Fifteen minutes later he had a wardrobe of pants he could pull up himself. Served him in the rehab and at home while he was healing.

Steve is overweight but very short. Always have to hem pants. Went to kmart got two sweatpants but might be to warm. But thiner pants or pajamas wont work. Roll up legs and start t o fall back down. He gets out of bed and walks to bathroom with help. Don't want him to start to trip or fall.dont knowbif helper can catch him . Especially with out pulling on his arm or something like that . He had open heart surgery. Then stroke six hours later. Cant pull or push with his arms. Cant put arm behind back.

I had an elderly friend who went to rehab after having a heart attack and laying on the floor for three days! The rehab strongly recommended sweat pants/jogging pants for their ease of on/off and the fact that they are forgiving of increase/decrease in weight.

Try to think outside the box; this really helps when going into a situation like this.

Barbara, for tehab, get your husband several pairs of sweat pants with ribbed or elastic ankles so that length doesnt matter. Also no zipper or button. Get them at Walmart or Target or someplace else inexpensive. And yes, make sure his name is in everything.

How about getting him some jogging pants, they are comfy, easy to wash and have an elastic waistband. It sounds as though he is doing pretty well?

Just be sure all his clothes have his name on them, even shoes and socks.
