My husband (65) is diagnosed with dementia and only wants to talk about sex.

Had to give up work and most other activities due to previous injuries and fatigue. All he wants to talk about or have is Sex. Although, at times he has issues with that as well. Please Advise.

Dewdeb, what medications have they trialed?

Have you considered getting in home help, or having him go to adult day care?

My husband is 59 with vascular dementia, after multiple strokes he only talks about sex, only with me, it starts from the time he opens his eyes in the morning till he shuts them at night. We have been to the neurologist several times and all the medications haven't helped with this. It has been going on for 2 years now. I change the subject but he goes right back to the same thing. I leave the room and come back but with the same conversation. He knows that he doesn't preform anymore so when I am near him he grabs and touches me. I am so fed up with this, I hate being in the same room with him.

My FIL has dementia and he too thinks about sex and wants to talk about it all the time, though only with me, not with his children. He still has that inhibition, thank goodness. Dad's neurologist prescribed a medication to improve his executive functioning. The kind of dementia Dad has is frontotemporal. He has difficulty making decisions or knowing if behavior is inappropriate. The drug has helped him a bit. More often now he knows that he shouldn't be talking about sex to me, or try to sweet talk me into kisses, etc.. I suggest you contact a neurologist and let the neurologist know about your husband's fixation. They've probably seen this kind of thing before and will have ideas about how to sidetrack it. I can only imagine how difficult this is for you, because you feel you've lost so many other sides of your beloved husband.

Oh boy - the only thing I can suggest is medication to help - can you talk with his doctor? There are a lot of others on this site that have experienced a similar issue - I hope they respond soon with their great advice!
