Nursing home lax with daily dental care?

My mom is in NH very far away and also under hospice care. I pay a caregiver to visit once a week to check on her. She told me that the NH doesn't brush her teeth. She said the last time she did it my moms gums bled and she just can't handle that. Shouldn't NH be handling dental care with same level of attention as bodily health care? I have not mentioned to NH yet but intend to tomorrow. Just curious about what others have experienced.

Facilities are generally understaffed - I found if I or a private caregiver are not there at bedtime she wouldn't even have help getting a nightgown on and would sleep in her clothes - pitiful

@freqflyer My mom has always been fastidious with dental care. She is physically unable to brush due to Parkinson's/physical limitations. Thank you for reference to another discussion. I will send sponge brushes to NH with request that they use those if they don't have time for regular brushing. Thank you all for comments.

They only do what the MD gives them written orders for.
Hospice now controls the orders.
The MD is not going to write an order if it causes bleeding.
Talk to the Hospice MD or his Head Nurse.

I think dental care often slips through the cracks in a NH. I remember when we used to visit my aunt she would have cheeks like a chipmunk from pocketed food, and this was hours after her lunch. She probably had some mouth care at bed time (at least I hope so), but it really isn't surprising that she lost a lot of her teeth.
