What to do with my Father when he is incapable of caring for himself?

Many assisted living facilities and nursing homes provide temporary respite care. There is a cost involved but he would be well cared for. The alternative would be to bring in live in help. BUT the socialization in a facility would help take his mind off of his wife's situation

Was your dad a veteran? My dad was. When my step mom needed to be in the hospital, the VA nursing home hosted him for the week she was in the hospital. They had some in home care when she came home (and he did too) but I'm not sure if that was also through VA or another local program.

Is this a case where she must be hospitalized and he can't be left alone? More info would be helpful. If so, you will need to arrange in home care or facility care for dad.
