I'm 82 years old, can I get paid caring for two people in my home?

I am 82 years old, my husband is 93 and wheel chair bound, I care for him and my 63 year old daughter, also wheel chair bound. Her leg was amputated because of diabetes.

I am so weary, I cook and clean and take them to doctors appointments, make beds, put their clothes on every morning, and pajama's every night. I give them their meds, and have to cook for two different diets.

All I have is my social security, and money is so tight. Can I get paid to care for them? Can I get some help and some relief? I love them but I'm going down in flames. I'm an in home care giver. I need help if there is paperwork. Desperate...

I am old, weak, and tired. Help me Jesus.. please I pray, please...

My son is trying to help me, but he works 14 hours a day.

My name is Doris,

All of above advice is excellent. Doesn't your husband get Social Security as well? Can you access the internet? If not, if your son can, have him go to your State's website and then select Departments, then look for Department for the Aged or Senior Citzens this should lead to your state's Medicaid program plus other agencies that offer programs for seniors and the disabled.

Another good contact is your Agency on Aging. They are a wealth of information.

Contact your local county health department and ask for a social worker to help you locate resources.

Doris, I am so sorry to hear of your situation. It must be exhausting to take care of even one disabled adult at your age, let alone two. Have you applied for Medicaid for either your husband or your daughter? Depending on where you live, it may be possible to obtain in-home services under Medicaid, such as the PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) program. You should contact your local office of Aging Services to find out what you may be qualified for.

Good luck!

Doris, your husband is probably getting SS, correct? And your daughter should qualify for SSI or DDSI. The three checks together should be ample. If you are not receiving these sources of income, please talk to your local SSA about entitlements you qualify for.

It isn't good to print personal information here. I've alerted the moderators to remove your son's phone number.
