How do you even find a live-in caregiver?

looking for a live in care giver for my dad who lives in Mesa, Az

Mimijazz questions how do you handle pay taxes and insurance etc. How often is she paid?? Did you register yourself as business or employer of record. Hiring a live in sounds attractive but.... Who drew up the employment agreement?

I found a live-in through the caregivers support group I attend, run by a local hospital. A woman showed up at group in October and said that her Dad died in September of AD and the live-in CG that was with him for the last three years of his life was now looking for a new position. I took her number, interviewed her at a local diner and she's been with us for almost a month. She knows other CGs, so I also have back-up for when she takes off one weekend a month. The takeaway is to ask around, join a support group, call the home-care division of your local hospitals, network, network, network. Good luck.

Can you afford a live in? You would have to pay minimum wage and provide a relief aide for 8 hours at night so the live in can sleep. That's about $200 per day or $6000 per month. That is more than the cost of Assisted Living yet cheaper than a Nursing Home. Think it over.

Your best bet is to call an agency that deals with caregivers, that way you know the agency is licensed, bonded, and insured. If you find someone elsewhere, not agency related, make sure your Dad purchases a workman's comp rider to his homeowner's insurance.... this is for in case the caregiver becomes injured on the job.
