How do we attain guardianship?

Our mother is bipolar. She is 72 years old. She ha been hospitalized 4 times. She refuses health care workers help. She is currently living alone, and is behaving erratically.

Fastest route...find an attorney who specializes in same.

Immediately begin documenting her behavior in writing with corroborating references if you can. Things like police reports, hospital reports, Doctor reports, particular instances - especially those showing she is a danger to herself or others. If she is spending recklessly, document that as much as you can.

Start thinking of exactly what you plan on doing when you HAVE guardianship. Document that information.

In the meantime, don't burn your bridges with mom. Make sure you still know what's going on in her life so that you can keep her safe.

Bipolar behavior can be destructive and hard to control. I wish you well.
