Skilled Nursing: Are Medicaid patients treated the same as paying patients?

So, my mom is private pay. I know that when she needs transport to a medical appointment, the administrative person says to me, very quietly, so you know because she's private pay, she'll be billed for that". As Pam says, it is not general knowledge among the staff what is getting paid by whom. When you think about it, why would it matter to the staff? They are getting paid the same regardless of the source of patients' funds.

I find that the fact that my mom is sweet and uncomplaining, and maybe the fact that we bring cake and cookies for the staff gets us attention to detail. But nothing else.

The aides and nurses neither know nor care how a patient pays. They care about the respect they receive from the patient and the visitors. They care for people, not wallets.

Well, let me tell you aboutLexington in Schaumburg, Il. My step mom's aunt went. In to the nursing home on Medicaid...probably close to eight years ago. She was 100 years old when she passed. The whole family has nothing but wonderful things to say about Lexington.

I think it's important to keep in mind that the nursing staff and aids don't know the difference.
