I want parents to sell their home to move in with us; can they pay rent on an added in-law suite?

Just make sure you have a written agreement spelling out what they are paying and what they are getting for that. They may also pay you for caregiving, if they need that now or down-the-road. Just be sure to document everything so it won't be considered a "gift" if they ever have to apply for Medicaid.
