Can I use Mom's money to pay for my travel expenses when I fly in to help her?

I have POA for my mother. I live in a different state.

Medicaid will consider it a gift. Your mom will be ineligible for Medicaid for the length of time equal to the value of the gifts she made.

This is not just paying for airfare. It is any expenses she pays for you. Even though you are doing it her benefit. As a family member...it is considered a gift.

Hire professionals to move her.

For those who don't know. I believe you mean Title 19, Medicaid.

I have to fly across country to move my mom to assisted living. Can my cost of flight come out of her funds prior to filing for title 19?

Some questions first: how often do you fly in to help her and what's the travel fare? What are her daily caregiving arrangements - i.e., is anyone coming in on a regular basis?

Your profile states that she's living in AL; how much have you arranged to have them do while you're not in the same state as your mother?

I think there are other practical questions as well:

Do you have siblings who might find these payments unreasonable?
Have you discussed this with your mother?
Does the DPOA address and authorize this issue at all?
Are you unemployed and need the money to make the trip?
