Any advice on how to get Mom to sit on the pot every 2 hours?

Mother is angry about MS and incontinence. She rebelliously drinks coffee and sodas, never tries to go in the potty. And pees lakes of urine which I am responsible for cleaning up. Try every day to get her to just sit several times a day.
She gets angry and yells at me that I don't understand her disease......

ARGH!! Help

I very nearly missed the reference to the multiple sclerosis because she abbreviated it. That alone can explain a lot of things.

Oh yah....antidepressants! Those might really help her!! Now...will she take them? Maybe you can mash them up and put one in her food. That was a great answer above!!

Can you talk to her doctor about her anger and defiance? Maybe an anti-depressant would be appropriate. Is her Multiple Sclerosis to the point where she isn't able to get up and down easily, or is she just anticipating what will come. How long has it been since her diagnosis?

I am so sorry that she is behaving this way.

My Mom uses depends pull ups. I didn' t like them at first because to take slacks off to change. But since she has hada couple of mishaps I'm glad. Rehab started her on them and she liked better than a pad. Sitting here wondering what our parents would say if they knew how we discussed them.

you have to forget what your demanding mother wants...put her in diapers if you can. unfortunately seniors are the most rebellious right before they lose control of taking care of themselves. i get that too...who wants to relinquish all their rights because they are tooo old to care for themselves!! omg...i'd rather be dead! but...you have to take control...no matter how guilty you feel...eventually they will be grateful that they are being taken care of! mite take awhile...but it will happen. if mom is NOT going to the bathroom and making a mess cause you are right behind her to clean it up...let her sit in her waste for awhile...and see how long she could stand it. i know it sounds cruel...but they do not know what they are doing ad their health and mind fails...and if you don't take control...you will be jumping out of a window! take care...been there...and still do it!

Get the adult disposables Prevail, Depends, Poise, Tena. Measure for proper fit. They don't leak, the pads on the other hand, will leak.

Hi Laurie. I have not come by this problem YET. Im caring for My Mum Who's 86, and has Alzheimer's. May I suggest coaxing Your Mother to come and sit on the loo before You prepare to bring treats for Her ?
Best of luck Laurie, there must be a solution to every problem.

Laurie, how old is your mother and what are your mobility issues? Or being incontinence the only main issue? Why isn't she wearing Poise, Always, or Depends?

If your Mom is still mobile, do like what my Mom [97] had to do with my Dad [93] who also was having such issues with being incontinence.... Mom got so tired of trying to clean up after him so now any time he has an oops, she hands him the cleaner, shrub brush and towels. After a few more mishaps and him needing to do the cleaning, guess what, he now is wearing Depends Guards.

Sometimes we need to use some tough love with our parents.... I know it's not easy.
