I'm 56 and have two bum knees that will be replaced, in the meantime, how do I get help at home?

Do I have to be 65? I live in a HUD housing unite and my service worker in so many words was like I was not old enough for assistance because I was not 62 but never told what kind of help I do qualify for. So, I am limping around the house on cement floors with thin towels hoping I wont lose my balance. I do have Medicaid and medicare but I don't know were to look.
