How can I get services for my Mom with dementia?

I am not her guardian and her husband is not able to care for her properly, My mom is married to a stubborn man who thinks he can care for her but he is 86 and not all together mentally. Her Dementia is getting very serious and I need to be able to make decisions for her. How can I get the authority to do that? Her episodes are getting worse and soon she will not be able to stay in her home, I 'm not sure what I should do at that point or what the options are for her..

I'm not sure what you mean by episodes? Anxiety needs anxiety meds and depression can be treated so she can stay at home longer.

You may need to file for guardianship, so yes, see an eldercare attorney. Have you called aps? Depending on your locale, they can be great partners in helping the elderly seeing that they need more care or completely worthless.

You need to set up an appointment and talk with an Elder Law attorney to see what you can do. Most attorneys will talk for the first half hour or so and not charge you.

Wonder if your parents each have a current Power of Attorney where you are second in line for POA if either your Mom or Dad cannot make decisions for each other? If not, ask the Attorney how to convince your parents to come in to update all their paperwork. I told my Dad that the State would take a lot of his estate if he didn't update... that perked up Dad's ears :)
