Mom's neurologist put her on Namenda and I've noticed her behavior has gotten worse. Advice?

She has been on it for about 5 weeks and has gotten more agitated and gets upset more easily and seems more confused than ever. I am thinking about taking her off. Her last doctor put her on Aricept and that seemed to cause severe agitation about a year and a half ago so I took her off of that as well. Does anyone really believe these drugs make a difference an if so how long does it take to see any benefit?

Found your post searching for answers about Namenda. My mom was on Aricept and did well, but after about 6 months, seemed as if it wasn't enough. Doc added Namenda 5 weeks ago, but Mom seems slower, more forgetful, less "tuned in" and a little angrier. She also wants to lay in bed all day. Guess it's time to call her doc with an update.

Please see her Dr. before taking her off any medication.

Get rid of the Namenda and forget the Aricept. If she is agitated, get an anxiolytic for her. Also avoid SSRI's if she is the manic type. I would ask about an SNRI instead.
