I've heard about small ALF homes/groups with 8 to 10 residents. How do I find these homes?

You probably need to pay a visit and look into alternative care for the parents. If it is a small community the local hospice may be able to recommend somewhere. They usually know all the little places which again will be good and bad. Public health may also help you. you could also put an add inthe local paper saying you are looking for a small group home to place the parents.

There are a number of things going on, including senior staff who tells her staff, that any issues mom and dad have "are not their problem." As has been reiterated by the 24/7 care we have in there, at a large extra cost.

I.E. Dad cut his leg (is on blood thinners) and the Sr Aid ask for help from the RN on call, in dressing the wound. She was told "it's not our problem." Sr Aids have cleaned their apartment (it's spotless and smells beautiful). RN said she was even "embarrassed" at the quality of her own staff's cleaning (that we pay for from the ALF). The Sr. Aids are doing so much more than the ALF staff. Which I'm thrilled about, but not happy with the ALF and their care, or even concern.

Boredom is a big factor in the small facilities. Just not enough people for activities and outings. When you say not getting proper care, what is missing? Do you have written orders from the MD that aren't getting done?
