My Dad has PD and is quickly going down. Is there a way to assist him in drinking more water laying down?

He lays in bed most of the time, can't walk, and has a hard time talking. He does not like to sit up in bed, he gets very upset if you raise him so I figure if I can come up with a water bottle of some sorts that is easy to pick up and not too difficult to understand, that would help. I was thinking of a bottle with the really long, stiff straw like the football players use. Any ideas welcome.

Does he want to drink? I agree with Pam -- it is dangerous while he is lying down.

I also agree with Pam that having hospice involved will be very comforting for both of you.

Please don't force him to drink and never give liquids lying down because he will aspirate the fluids into his lungs. I hope you have Hospice there with you, because he sounds close to leaving. You don't want to have to call 911 and report a death, there will be a lot of questions asked. Hospice handles all that stuff without the police getting involved.
