Keeping family member in rehab until next surgery. What should we do?

Thanks everyone for your responses! I like the idea of calmly contacting our state constituents. The next surgery is to remove the halo and pins and add a permanent plate. It is occurring in 11 days. We asked about the plateauing and urged them to look at the type of OT/PT they are requiring and the type (on heavy narcotics) and if we can have a copy of the reports being sent to her insurance company. I wish we would have just kept her on straight medicare instead of Humana Gold.

Forgive my intrusion, but if the first surgery produced no improvement, why on earth would you go for a second one?

When will the next surgery be? A week? Two months?

Agree with FF, this might be the discharge planning office, it's called different things in different places. In any event, you are absolutely allowed to refuse to accept discharge. Home would have to be evaluated by an ot to be certified as safe, they need to have home care in place before they discharge, etc. You can probably wring your hands enough to delay until surgery if needs be. If they threaten to call a cab, tell them that you are calling your senator congressman and state representatives. Very calmly. Hysterics gets you nowhere.

Check with her hospital case worker, the one that arranged for your family member to go into rehab, explain what is happening and ask for what to do next.
