My Dad has sundowners every night really bad for about an hour. Is there any help for this craziness?

It is difficult to handle.

I had read on this site someone said try melatonin, so I got some 3 mg & split in half gave my dad half & he slept 7:30 p.m.-6:20 a.m. ; I heard him get up 3 times bathroom & go right back to bed . so I have it in his pill box for rest of week.

I would love for only an hour. Sometimes dad is up all night..no sleep for us. We use drugs, but back to the Dr on Monday for an update as they are not working as well as I would like

My friend Erica is caring for her Grandfather with dementia and sundowning. She keeps all the lights on in the house, making it as bright as she can, until it is his bedtime, about 10PM. Then she lowers them and he agreeably goes to bed.

Has he been seen by a geriatric psychiatrist ? There are meds that sometimes help.
