Mom can't keep a diaper on because she takes it off when scratching herself in her sleep. Then, she wets the bed. Crazy circle. Suggestions?

Yes.... she does have restless legs too.... on top it all. hmmm, will that cause her to itch and scratch? thank you...

Wonder if she has restless legs, some symptoms are creeping, crawling, or prickling sensations.

Just a thought... some medications have itchiness as a side effect. Might be worth checking into.

Thank you, txcamper... the itching is not only at night, but it is worse at night. I think sometimes any fruit or drinks that are acidic might create the itchiness... but I'm not sure about that. She takes Loritadin once a day for it, doesn't seem to do much. She does wear the Silhouette brand that are pantie style and have the least amount of gathering - they are very nice. I gave her the cloth undies that have padding, and she takes those off too. She just needs to scratch so bad, she can't handle having anything on. I do have 6 fabric pads that she sleeps over. It has helped to keep the under sheet dry. If she pees just a small amount, I may let the pad air dry... as to avoid too many loads of wash.But I've pretty much accepted that I will be doing a lot of laundry. Her "sheets" are actually fleece blankets for the comfort and warmth they give. Both top and bottom "sheets" are fleece.

First off, treat the itching problem and then the others might take of themselves. I know when I have poison ivy, I take Benedryl. Ask her doctor if that might be helpful. You wouldn't want to make it worse by soaking in a hot bath, for example. Oh, and use a moisturizing soap, like Dove. Is the itching only at night? Maybe it's the sheets. You might try the pull-up type of panty so that she can't take them off so easily. They do tear on the sides, but not easily. Another thought, I'm sure you've already thought of this, is to have an absorbent mattress protector under her. I know my MIL doesn't like most lotions on her because she feels wet and wants me to towel it off her. Good luck.

The diaper should not be itchy. Try a different brand. If her skin is dry, try a good baby moisturizing product. Consult a dermatologist if you can.
