Will Medicaid pay for round the clock care at home for elderly?

Elderly friend has both Medicare and Medicaid. She has 8 hours of home health care. She really needs someone to care for her during the night as well. She lives in a house in a small town.

Once you need round the clock care, it is time for a nursing home or assisted living. Some states now include Assisted Living in a Medicaid program under "community based services". Check your state.

No, Medicaid won't pay for more hours. If they did, everyone would have around-the-clock care in their home.

You are right, Maggie, and for the right reason. It would be far too expensive.

My instincts tell me no, they won't. It would be more expensive for her to have round-the-clock care at home with an individual care giver than it would be to place her in a nursing home. Maybe others have more workin' for them than "instincts" though.
