Here in the Chicago area, it is possible to hire excellent live-in personal care givers for $5,000 a month...through a service. No time off (they send in substitutes), no employee worries. It's not cheap, but it's most certainly great service. Best bet is to ask friends, family, Council on Aging (or subsidiaries), church, etc. They're out there.
