Some do get better and the PEG tube is removed. All patients are different. My daughter was on IV feedings off and on several times.

No my mom didn't eat when tube was in but that is because she was on ventilator.

My mother had a peg feeding tube for some time during her recovery from heart surgery. She was also ventilator dependent. She had the feeding tube removed and weaned from the ventilator. She has a trach but eats normally. Everyone is different as we know. The biggest issue was the tube getting clogged on occasion. Just make sure the proper care of the feeding tube.
